Mahindra Automotive, during the second half of this year, will be launching the five-door version of its popular lifestyle off-roader Thar in the country. The model will boast a set of additional doors in the middle and will come equipped with a host of new features. Some reports have claimed that it will be called the Armada, as the brand has patented this name in the country. Recently, a video has been shared online in which an outgoing three-door Mahindra Thar was compared after being parked right next to the test mule of a five-door Mahindra Thar.
This video of the Mahindra Thar three-door vs five-door has been shared on YouTube by The Car Show on their channel. It starts off with the presenter mentioning that a lot of people want to know how much bigger the new Mahindra Thar five-door will be in comparison to the outgoing model. So, in this video, there will be a side-by-side comparison of the Mahindra Thar three-door vs five-door. Following the brief introduction, he adds that there are a total of test mules that have been parked in the same parking lot, and hence, there are multiple different variants.
Mahindra Thar Five-door vs Three-door Exterior Differences
Next up after this, he starts with the exterior comparison of the two SUVs. He begins at the front of the cars and mentions that both cars look very similar and boast a number of the same body panels. However, the front grille design on the Thar five-door has been changed. It now gets a new split-style grille and new LED headlights with circular LED DRLs. Apart from this, he mentions that the width and height of the car have been kept the exact same.
The presenter states that the major difference is in the length of the two cars. He states that the Thar three-door came under the sub-4m segment; the new Thar five-door will be around 300mm bigger and will be around the length of the new Hyundai Creta and other compact SUVs. After this, he shows the rear end of the car and mentions that the Thar five-door will come equipped with steel wheels, alloy wheels, and 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels as well.
Next up, he shows the roof of the car and mentions that the three-door model came with a fiber roof. The five-door model will get a proper metal roof. Additionally, the top-spec variants of the five-door Thar will come equipped with an electric sunroof, which has been placed in the middle of the roof. He also mentions that the roof of the five-door will be painted in the body color of the vehicle, unlike the three-door version, which came with a matte black roof.
Thar Three-door vs Five-door Interior
Following the exterior comparison, the presenter compares the interior of the two models. He states that the two-door car came with two seats in the rear for only two passengers. However, the new five-door model will get a bench seat with three individual headrests for three passengers. It will also come with rear air conditioning vents and a Type C charging port. Additionally, the car will also get speakers on the roof.
Next up, the presenter compares the dashboard layouts of the two cars. He states that the new five-door model will come with the same layout; however, it will get a brand-new bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen. This screen looks similar to the one on the Mahindra XUV400 EV. Additionally, the Thar five-door will also get a steering wheel taken directly from Scorpio-N and XUV700. It will also get a 10-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, which the three-door model misses out on.
Other Information on Five-door Thar
The presenter then mentions that the Mahindra Thar five-door will most likely feature the exact same powertrain options, including a 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol, and 2.2-litre diesel engine.
