Reports about Ford returning to the Indian market are getting stronger with each passing day. A recently leaked patent design image from Ford shows the manufacturer’s plan to launch an MPV in the market. The MPV seen in the leaked image is not similar to any other model that the manufacturer sells internationally. It could be an MPV that the manufacturer is planning to introduce to the Indian market.
The leaked image shows an MPV with typical Ford-like design elements. The MPV has clean lines with no muscular design elements anywhere on the body panels. The large front grille with the Ford logo in the center can be seen here. Just next to the grille, we see the headlamps. The headlamps have a sleek design, with fog lamps positioned on the lower part of the bumper.
The MPV has a crossover-like design on the outside. It has small alloy wheels that look disproportionate when compared to the rest of the body. We see cladding around the round wheel arches, roof rails, panoramic sunroof, shark fin antenna, and also a glimpse of the wrap-around tail lamps.
Ford is yet to confirm anything about this upcoming MPV. However, we feel that this would be a great addition to expand their lineup in India. Ford’s upcoming MPV will compete with the likes of Maruti Ertiga, XL6, Toyota Rumion, and Kia Carens in the segment. We have no information related to the engine and transmission options yet.
Just like its rivals, Ford’s MPV is expected to come with three-row seats. Ford is expected to launch the MPV in India and then export it to other markets as well.
The American car manufacturer will be launching the current-generation Endeavour in the market. The SUV will be the flagship SUV from the manufacturer in India and will compete with the Toyota Fortuner, which has been ruling this segment.
Other than this, Ford also has plans to launch a compact SUV in the market. The upcoming SUV’s patent design had leaked, and just like the MPV’s image, the SUV is also an all-new product expected to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos. It is likely to be the successor to the Ford EcoSport, which was sold in the Indian market.
The upcoming Ford SUV is said to be the same SUV that Mahindra and Ford were expected to develop as part of their partnership. However, with Mahindra out of this equation, Ford is likely to manufacture the SUV on its own and is expected to offer it with both petrol and diesel engine options developed by Ford themselves.
The upcoming MPV looks clean and premium, and when launched, it is going to be a great addition to their lineup. The upcoming Ford Endeavour is going to be an expensive SUV, and the manufacturer is going to be selling it as a CBU model. Ford will not be calling the flagship SUV Endeavour. They will continue with the Everest badge, which is already used on the international models. Ford Ranger was also spotted in India and it needs to be seen if the manufacturer will launch this popular pick up truck here.
