“It’s special”: Josh Giddey and NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain share an epic feat

Australian NBA star Josh Giddey and NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain were the only two players to record triple-doubles in the league’s first two games at Madison Square Garden. This was after a second star turns from New York.

Giddey, who had a 28-point triple-double in overtime against the Knicks in his rookie year, was back at it Monday morning. He scored 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists to join NBA legend Chamberlain.

Giddey stated, “Anytime you can be mentioned in the names of greats such as that, it’s extraordinary,” after guiding his team to a win of 145-135.

“But basketball’s a team sport, so if these things help my teammates win and make them better, it is worth it.”

Giddey was thrilled to perform at the legendary venue for his fifth career triple-double.

He said, “We only come here once a calendar year, so we have to have fun while we’re there.”

“In my time, we have had two wins so it’s all been good so far.

It’s the most well-known arena in the world, and it’s fun to go there. This arena was always on my calendar so I’m excited to return next year.

With Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Giddey’s partner, contributing 37 points, the win helps the Thunder improve their record of 6-7 wins and losses through the first 13 games.
