L’Oréal Reinforces Leadership and Commitment to Cosmetic Safety

Stéphane Dhalluin, Ph.D., Global Head of Human & Environmental Safety Evaluation at L’Oréal Research & Innovation, has been elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the International Collaboration on Cosmetics Safety (ICCS).

This appointment underscores L’Oréal’s ongoing commitment to advancing cosmetics safety assessment without animal testing.

Dhalluin commented,

“I am deeply excited and honored to be elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the International Collaboration on Cosmetics Safety (ICCS). This is a crucial time to advance cosmetics’ animal-free safety assessments globally, and I am eager to collaborate with the exceptionally talented and passionate ICCS scientists, experts, members, and stakeholders.”

ICCS is a global initiative focused on accelerating the adoption of animal-free safety assessment approaches for cosmetics, personal care products, and their ingredients.

Over 40 years ago, L’Oréal pioneered the development of human-reconstructed skin that can be used to evaluate how cosmetic ingredients and products behave on human skin.

L’Oréal currently manufactures different types of reconstructed human skin in its Episkin labs in France, China, and Brazil.

The Groupe is also making this technology available to governments, organizations, and other companies for testing purposes to minimize animal testing.

Dhalluin added,

“Together, we’ll accelerate the adoption of innovative, animal-free approaches, ensuring both human health and environmental safety of cosmetics with rigorous scientific standards.”

In addition to L’Oréal’s skin models, the Groupe has many non-animal predictive assessment tools, such as molecular modeling, expert toxicology systems, imaging techniques, and more.
