Tata launched the Punch in the Indian market in 2021. The micro SUV is available in five variants. Today, we will cover the details of the base Pure variant of Tata Punch via a YouTube video uploaded by Her Garage.
The video starts with the exterior of the car. The car follows the industry trend, offering bumper mounted headlamps. In place of the DRLs, the car comes with a halogen bulb and the indicators are also halogen. Both the indicators are connected by a glossy black grille. The headlights are reflector based halogen units. As it is the base variant, fog lights are missing.
On the side, the Punch is equipped with 15-inch black coloured steel rims with no wheel caps. A black coloured body cladding goes all around the car to give it a macho look. The door handles and ORVMs are not body coloured, but the good thing is that the ORVMs come with integrated turn signals. The host highlights an essential feature of Tata Punch, which is its 90-degree opening doors. This feature is not much talked about, but it makes the entry and exit from the vehicle fairly easy.
Being the base variant, there is not much to talk about at the rear. It misses out on multiple essential features such as a rear wiper, washer, defogger, roof rails, antenna and reverse parking camera. It comes equipped with high-mount stop lamps and two parking sensors. The entire light setup at the rear is halogen.
The interior of the Punch features an all-black theme with white and black piano inserts in multiple places. The car comes with only two front power windows, and the ORVMs have to be adjusted by pushing the glass. The lack of all power windows and ORVMs adjustment can be a major letdown for some.
Being the base variant, it does not offer features such as steering-mounted controls, auto AC, an infotainment system, speakers and tweeters. However, it comes with an all-digital instrument cluster. Interestingly, the car also comes with drive modes.
The host sits on the second row to show the space. She mentions that the vehicle has enough space for two people. However, the space would get cramped up if three people were sitting. Talking about the price, the base variant costs Rs. 6.12 lakhs, and the top variant is priced at Rs. 10.19 lakhs ex-showroom.
The Punch misses out on essential security feature which is central locking with and remote lock/unlock feature. On the other hand, It has received a commendable 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. The car comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and other safety features like corner stability control and hill hold assist.
The Punch comes with a 1.2-liter Revotron petrol engine, pumping out 87 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. This engine comes mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. While the engine may not offer exceptional performance, it provides a smooth and efficient drive, especially suited for city traffic. A CNG variant is also available in the Tata Punch. However, power figures see a drop in the CNG version. The micro SUV is also available with an all-electric powertrain.
